My Mother

Penny Imani Robinson. She goes by Imani.

She was born in Los Angelas, where she grew up, on November 7th, 1948, but she tells me that she's 30. Her parents were Leon and Ollie Palmer, and her mother's maiden name was Johnson. She has one older sister, Patricia.

She graduated from Centennial High School in 1966 and University of California, Los Angelas in '75. She has a BA in sociology. Her first full time job after High School was as  Junior Rate Checker for the Automobile Club of Southern California, and she was the first African American to hold the job. After graduating college, she went to Africa, and then again in '95.

She met my dad in 1978, at her first full time job out of college at a company called Volt. She met him through a mutual friend, who my dad was living with, Richard Pransky. My mom and dad were married on the first day of Spring in 1981.

My mom really likes to ice skate because she feels like she's "flying, dancing and floating" all at one time. She also likes to sew, and loves just to "create things." Her favorite food is Bryers Natural Vanilla Ice Cream, her favorite color is emerald green, and her favorite song is I'll Be There by Michael Jackson.

When she was little, she wanted lots of babies, but now she has only four. She wants to live to be 150-years-old at least, and has a strong desire to always do something positive.

Her favorite scripture of the Bible is 1 Corinthians 13:13.
